We are off for the Holidays. Happy New Year! We'll be back Jan 4th!
Cranial Sacral Therapy was created by osteopaths. Osteopathic medicine and Chiropractic were once "cousins", created out of the same needs. Though their paths diverged over time, especially in the era and involvement of the AMA; cranial sacral therapy remains a prize gift to chiropractors and people everywhere.
The art of cranial sacral is incredibly gentle, and specific. It requires an unfurling of the body, including the spine, meninges, dura, central nervous system, the venous sinus system, the ventricular system, and the cerebrospinal fluid, to say the least.
It takes a subtle stillness to truly be able to listen and distinguish between all the many layers of the system. The joint movements, the gross anatomy movement, the hum of the heart, the dull sounds of the gastrointestinal system, and then, just then, the subtle whooshing of the cerebral spinal fluid.
“Know your anatomy and physiology, but when you get your hands on a person’s body, never forget that a living soul dwells therein.” Dr. A.T. Still, DO
The founder of this particular technique was Dr. William Sutherland DO, who one day was struck out of the blue of the by beveled edges of the squamosal suture lines between the sphenoid, temporal, and parietal bones in a disarticulated skull on display at his college. At this time, the concept of any movement on the suture lines was considered fanatical, but he was convinced the "beveled like the gills of a fish" sutures indicated respiration, and moment. Through his practice and journey he was able to learn just how correct this inspirational idea was.
Dr. Sutherland created a revolution in anatomy, physiology, osteopathy, and chiropractic circles. Dr. John Upledger continued his work in his own way, as have many others.
The basis of this work is stillness, and allowance. We hope to serve you with this beautiful therapy soon.
